After the Masai Mara, Amboseli National Park is the most popular wildlife destination in Kenya offering spectacular game viewing and magnificent views of Africa’s highest mountain; Kilimanjaro. Relatively small compared to Kenya’s Masai Mara and other parks, just 392km², Amboseli is still home to all of the Big 5; lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino, and it’s central wetlands area, where underground streams come to the surface, provides the densest wildlife populations including over 300 species of bird. Early morning and sunset provides the best views of the snow-capped peaks of Kilimajaro.

Amboseli sits on the border of Tanzania in the East of Kenya and game viewing is at it’s best in January/February and also in June/July/September. This also coincides with the busiest times of year, so expect a few game vehicles at sightings. Game viewing is exceptional throughout the year.
Amboseli boasts huge elephant herds and this is a top choice park for elephant enthusiasts. Horseback safaris can be arranged through your chosen lodge and guided nature walks allow you to get up close and personal with the park’s wildlife and plant species. Catching sight of Africa’s highest mountain at dawn or in the early evening with herds of wildlife in front is a photographer’s dream.
Combine a few days in Amboseli with a visit to the iconic Masai Mara or other Kenya reserves such as Chyulu Hills National Park. Just 200km from Nairobi, Amboseli is easily accessible by road or light aircraft, and from Nairobi connect easily to Wilson Airport for transfers to the Masai Mara or other reserves. From Nairobi continue your journey to Tanzania or head South to all major Southern Africa air hubs.
