The Portuguese influence in this historic city gives it a Latino feel with samba music coming from the bars, piri piri sauce features in most dishes, a constant buzz emanating from the nightclubs and sidewalk cafes alive with sellers and traders showing wares. Walking down the tree-lined streets you will pass contrasting architecture from portuguese mosaic sidewalks, magnificent church steeples, run-down apartment blocks with goats crying on the balconies; Maputo is the epitome of a cultural melting pot. A coastal town, Inhaca Island lies nestled 40km off shore in Maputo Bay and is a beach paradise where yachts moor, cruise ships pause and visitors enjoy the tropical climate and clear turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean.

June and September is the best time to visit Mozambique. The winds have died down, the days are clearer and cooler but still exquisitely warm with a tropical feeling. The rains come down between November and April, and the temperatures peak, so if you’re after clear skies then these months are best avoided.
Soak up the Latino vibe in Maputo, eat peri-peri chicken & prawns, catch a boat to Inhaca Island and its neighbour Portuguese Island; uninhabited with pristine white beaches. Inhaca has its own Marine Biology Museum and a Lighthouse to explore. Wildlife in the area includes the loggerhead turtle, pelicans, flamingos and an array of beautiful birdlife. SCUBA Diving from the lodges on Inhaca Island is outstanding, with dolphin, whale shark and manta ray sightings highly possible.
LAM & SAA Airlines fly into Maputo on a daily basis and a 10min flight connects Maputo and Inhaca Island, making it a very accessible area and the perfect beach & bush holiday when combined with Big 5 locations such as Kruger National Park or the Okavango Delta. After some bustling city days in Maputo we recommend a few days of tranquil indulgence on one of the island chains such as the Bazaruto Archipelago or the Quirimbas Archipelago, to finish off your Mozambique trip of a lifetime in luxurious beach style.
