The spectacular falls can be viewed from either Zimbabwe or Zambia and are best viewed when the Zambezi is in full flood – which is usually in the rainy season (between February and May). But even if you are travelling out of the rainy season, you will still be stunned by its sheer magnitude of the drop, and there are plenty of activities to partake in all year round.
Take a scenic flight over the falls; ride an elephant; or take a sundowners’ boat cruise on the mighty Zambezi River, as the African sun greets you with an orange glow.Ride the rapids on a white-water rafting trip or take one of the walking routes down into the rainforest and view the main falls from below. On Zambia’s side you can cross the Knife-Edge Bridge which brings you right up to the fall, and to a footpath that takes you to a large whirlpool at the base of the falls.
Victoria Falls’ location also makes it an ideal base for exploring South Central Africa, including National Parks in Botswana, such as the famous Chobe National Park or the Okavango Delta. Victoria Falls is easily accessible with flights to and from from Johannesburg or Cape Town and provides the perfect gateway to the rest of Africa.
